Boat Buying Get Real

Dawn and I made an offer on a boat today.

That is just step one, for those who aren't familiar with it the process go like this:

  1. Courtesy visit. You get to go look at the boat crawl around it but not sail or motor or leave the dock. - DONE
  2. Offer to Purchase by Buyer (Dawn and I) - DONE
  3. Offer Acceptance by Seller - Due by Monday
  4. Sea Trial - This is where you get to take her out for a spin, try all the systems outs, etc.
  5. Survey - You have a professional survey inspect the boat and all systems. This includes hauling the boat and inspecting the hull, prop, etc.
  6. Go/No-Go Decision based on Sea Trial and Survey
  7. Closing

If all goes well we would close in May, but the boat has to pass a bunch of hurdles and the seller's still have to accept our offer as well.

Hey Patrick, very pretty boat!  Also, saw you're doing the Feb class with Dr Edwards- good to see, hope you find it as valuable as I did.  Looks like she's in SF- let me know if you need a surveyor referral- we know a fabulous guy, liveaboard down there in Alameda, probably has 200k miles under his belt- exactly who you want looking at a boat that's going cruising.  ~Behan

Thanks Behan, the boat is in Blaine,WA  and we're set on the Surveyor.

We wont' be able to attend the class this weekend due to a funeral, but we're going to take the class at the next opportunity.
