Sailing in and around Puget Sound and planning to sail further

Boater Information System

The Boater Information System (or BIS Portal) from the Washington Sea Grant and APL UW is a pretty cool site that allows you to overlay wind, tide, current information on a map. The site is completely custom and worked great for me in IE7.0. As an example of one of the things you do, I love this view of the wind.

This is only a partial view of the entire page. My only complain it you can’t show multiple kinds of information on chart all at once, but its still really cool and I’m sure it will come in handy for those who want to see if they should go out for a sail.

Thanks to the folks over at WWTA for sharing the site in their newsletter.
