I helped out Judy on the Electronics list at sailnet and thought I would post this to my blog since I could not find it on the web.

Here is the procedure to unlock the LSB function in the Furuno
FS1503:
You need to change system parameter 9914 to "0" to enable LSB capability.

SYSTEM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE:

1. While pressing and holding down the [CH] key,  turn the power on to enter system programming mode, release the [CH] key after unit is on and "MEMO" shows in the display.
2. Select function 9999 by rotating the FREQ/CH knob.
3. Press [CH], [1], [5], [0], [3], and [ENT] keys. ("1503" is password.)
4. Select function 9914 by rotating the FREQ/CH knob, then press [CH], [0], and [ENT] keys.
5. To finish up, escape the programming mode by simply turning off the radio.

The system programming is completed.

The codes you provided worked beautifully. We are now able to access the LSB. We were able to hear Chris give the weather this morning for the first time since we have been on this boat.
