I was out racing tonight on Diversion. It was a good race we were a bit shorthanded. One of the guys is still learning a position and the skip put him on something new, but that worked out ok. The course was a Windward-Leeward-Windward-Leeward-Windward to finish and all the trim was good and the sail choice seem pretty good, we flew the #3 jib due to higher winds and squalls. I think we could have done well with the #2 but it was in the shop. the skip has lots of new gear and lines and sails so when something is getting fixed you can’t really be unhappy about that.
We were in first at one point in the race, but The Boss which is a very seasoned crew and has a Skip with over 20 years racing experiences kicked out butts (again). Our boat is still figuring out how to race in Puget Sound when it comes to knowing where the wind will be and how to use or avoid the current. We got beat by not being in the right wind and miss-calculating a layline, we were swept away from the mark, so we had to tack out and come back at it again. :-(
All in all though it was a fun evening even with the squalls and rain, it was still pretty warm so not too unpleasant. We ended the race in sunshine as the sun was setting. You can’t go wrong with that. :-)
